Be Kind Rewind Movie Review (1 Reviews)

Lay your eyes on this one. movies like these come by once in a while. unassuming, hilarious and adorably funny. it might as well typify a sober version of the Austin Power comical meat. When Mike's VHS shop - Be Kind, Rewind (well that comes from the shopowner's request to all customers to be considerate enough to rewind their borrowed tape before returning it) is the victim of a scientific disaster (ever seen magentized pee?) he and is junkyard crony recreate their own versions of every Hollywood film in demand, just so as not to disappoint the loyal clientele. They pose themselves in libraries and dingy corners with jingbang paraphernalia and negative film effects to horrify the audience of their version of Ghost Busters.much ado about everything . .. they reshoot the entire film, with an impromptu funnily scripted script and produced in less than 24 hours. no editing required. they just blow up a car in the process. or consider the special children's garden effects of a freefall where they pose as Jackie and Steve in their Rush Hour 2-like roles...allright...breakdance- like martial arts.they manage to reshoot whatever title is in demand...like crayon lion characters for the Lion King, AND get popular. Someone asks them 'why are the tapes so premiumly priced' and jerry pops in 'coz they come from sweden' so the tapes are sweded..and there's a long line of yuppies wanting their favourite film sweded. so begins a saga of multi-film production - the stone age way..with home-made sets, special home-born effects, handmade graveyards from backyards, like time travel begins set travel to complete a few dozen projects on time. hangon - the slight sad twist in the tale. The VHS shop is in danger of being demolished if it doesnt sustain the profitability. Plus copyright violations of the sweded versions....all the tapes crushed like detritus under a road roller. but they dont give up. The humungous sweded film fan club is determined to roll like a stone...they create their own film. A film about Fats Waller - the famous jazz guy who was born in the shop. using an old table fan for a scratchy sepia effect, cardboard vintage cars and cracker for bullets, the film crew relives the life of the jazz master. they got 1 week and 1 week it was to complete the film before the demolition drive. and on the eve of the day, they huddle in the shop for one last time to view what they got. when their magnum opus is projected on a huge white clothscreen played against the window, it is watched with unabated awe and tears of undwindling joy.they had recreated history- like the taj rebuilt with fingers...and they are not alone. the entire neighbourhood breaks into applause as they watch the clothscreen from the outsides of the shop....even the demolition supervisor who decides to let them be...to create swedes..maybe of Rush Hour 4 or Superman returns 2. but you cannot remake this one. watch it on DVD guys. well worth a sense of humour.
