If you thought Indian cinema is the only masaledar (zesty) moviemaking mania then think again, see the latest semi-animated Hollywood release ‘Beowulf’! Draping in itself all the elements of entertainment from a super-human enchantment of the characters to heroism of Beowulf aka Ray Winestone, the dreadful villain Grendel aka Crispin Glover and the oomphy mother of all evil Angelina Jolie. So there you go, technology combined with sex and generous squeeze of a typical hero-saves-the-world story!

Encouraged by the oldest surviving poem and a important English literature epic ode, Beowulf is a glorious magical story about a robust warrior and his vow to wipe out the demon called Grendel. The monster had ignited Beowulf’s cruel attention by wasting the best soldiers of in King Hrothgar's (Anthony Hopkins) huge army. In his surge of a monster-slayer oath he fights Grendel just to be faced by the Mother of all monsters, Grendel’s yummy mummy Angelina Jolie.

Once back to the human land, Beowulf has to claim his position over Hrothgar's throne having Wealthow (Robin Wright Penn) as his counterpart. However, coming straight out of the shimmery water, naked and entwined in liquid gold, Grendel’s mother occupies his mind with the desire of her and the promises of wealth and success. Now he has to sign off with the last battle, a physical and a mental one. Escaping the claws of a desire-full being demanding revenge will be hard.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis the movie plays highly on computer-generated imagery, animation and special effects. Wherein, the human jobs are restricted to delivering facial expressions and vocalisms in special studios. These are then transformed, in a scientific bliss to create a majestic and extra ordinary visual effects.

Resembling its façade from ‘300’ movie, Beowulf is not just a literary enriching saga but also an important film for Indian directors to gain knowledge from.

However, what doesn’t really register are the soulless eyes! As the saying goes ‘a smile travels from lips to the eyes and so does every other expression’. Probably, the journey goes incomplete in theory.

Apart from this the stereotypical Angelina Jolie jutting her breasts around walking on some invisible stilettos is a bit too much. In actual story, this woman is to be ultra fiendish and demoniac. However, this ultra just applies to sexy and luscious.
