Featured Iron Man Movie Review

by spk100

I am not your regular movie goer. Probably one movie a month or sometimes one every 3-4 months. Thats it.
Reason is simple enough. Most of the movies that are coming out are your typical romance/action flick with only the actors being changed in every movie. So, i always check out the trailer/pre release news and then decide whether to watch it in theatres or wait till it comes out on DVD.

But there are certain movies that i must watch in theatres - either the first day or the second day as far as possible. Iron man is one such movie that i wanted to watch only in theatres and esp as soon it is released.

The movie released on friday and i had the tickets for the 9am show on Saturday. Normally these 9am shows do not get a lot of ppl and this being an "english movie", i was kind of hoping that i would be the only guy in the theatre or one among a very few.

Thankfully, my prayers were answered and i was one among 10-15 ppl in the audience. So, i didnt have all these stupid cell phone/pop corn disturbances.

Iron man is one of the awesome comic superhero that i am sure everyone would have heard/read about. Being a comic/cartoon lover, i naturally had a lot of expectations for this movie. The previous ones i watched (Fantastic Four, Daredevil) were a bit of a damn squib.

The trailers/pre movie news had all the right indications. They managed to rope in Robert Downing Jr to play Iron man which was awesome.

While the comic had its root in Vietnam, the movie changed it to Afghanistan with the current scenario in mind. But apart from this, all the others were the same.

The movie starts off little slowly, with some usual background info on Tony Stark (robert downing jr.). I love the scenes where he builds the first "crude" iron man suit in the cave and makes in getaway. I do not think anyone else apart from robert downing could have pulled it off like this. Those scenes and the ones that follow were awesome :)

The scene where he "test flies" the new Iron man suit is beautiful. I wish i had that suit :)

The movie has left a lot of questions unanswered, which i am sure is purposely done so that the sequels could be made around them :).

Before the climax fight, they showed the suit for "War Machine" and that looked awesome as well. I am sure if they get the same cast to play the sequel, it would be even more bigger than this :)

FYI, War Machine is the super hero friend of Iron Man. This character is played by Terrence Howard in this movie. In the comics, tony stark's friend dons this suit one day as war machine :)

Finally, they got Gwyneth Paltrow to play the secretary for tony stark and one who keeps a tab on what her boss is upto and maintains his affairs in order.

The movie may not be in the same class as Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, but it sure packs a punch and if you are a  big lover of the comic version then i am sure you would love this movie and this one def is a great start for the awesome summer lineup that includes The Dark Knight, Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Mongol, The Incredible Hulk, Hellboy II :)

I would give this movie a 8.5 out of 10.
