This movie was directed by Paul Berges. It is taken from the novel of the same name by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, it tells the story of a young woman named Tilo (Aishwarya Rai) who has lived by one tradition all her life. When she is a child she discovers she can see things others could not, her parents are murdered by villians who want to use Tilo's powers to find their riches, and without revealing too much, Tilo ends up at her destiny. She is named The Mistress Of Spices. She is transported to Los Angeles where she owns a spice shop. Her job is to help other people using the spices. Tilo is able to see into their lives and know exactly what they need. However for the spices to work, she must live by the conditions that she must never set foot outside her spice store, never touch another skin, and love only the spices. if these rules are broken then the spices will take revenge and she will be punished.
Throughout the movie Tilo portrays her devotion to the spices by helping others and is completely faithful to them, that is until she meets Doug (Dylan McDermott). She imediately falls inlove with him, and the more she does, the more the spices become angry and take their revenge. So Tilo is forced to choose, to turn her back on her tradition and start a new life with the man she loves or remain the mistress of spices and lose him forever. This story is about tradition, love and sacrifice!
