‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ by CS Lewis, one of the most anticipated fantasy films from Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media, has hit the theatres in town. If you have read the series of books of ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ you will love the movie even more when you see your favorite characters, scenes and places in Narnia come to life on the big screen!
Here is a brief. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, the prime characters of the film, are summoned back in this second installment. A year goes by after the unbelievable events and the Kings and Queens of Narnia find themselves back in that faraway amazing realm, only to discover that more than 1300 years have passed in Narnian time and that Golden Age of Narnia has become extinct during their absence. The magical creatures were forced into hiding when the Telmarines (humans) invaded. Narnia is taken over by the Telmarines and comes under the control of the evil and merciless, King Miraz whose nephew Prince Caspian is the true heir to the throne.
All hell is let loose when King Miraz gives birth to a son. Now having an heir to the throne, he plots to kill the rightful heir, Price Caspian, in order to place his own newborn son on the throne. Caspian escapes with the help of his tutor. The rest of the story goes about how Narnia is rescued from Miraz's tyrannical hold and the magic, glory and peace of the land is restored.
The magical fantasy land is grounded in ancient Greek-Roman mythology, ruled by sorcery and superstition, and populated by centaurs, a much huger Aslan, minotaurs, fauns, gryphons, talking mammals, tree spirits and much much more. With bigger battle sequences and scarier monsters than its precursor, the new installment flaunts grandeur in the visual effects.
Critically, the character of King Miraz is filled with hatred but lacks the charisma to actually command power or even the audience’ respect. There isn't a point in the film where is hated. Even the scene involving the sword fight with Peter fails to impress. But despite this flaw in casting 'Prince Caspian' is an epic adventure - - a praiseworthy sequel aided immeasurably with brave characters, amazing creatures and incredible special effects that make you want to see it again and again!
