As usual, Director Priyadarshan sticks to the original screenplay of Malayalam movie "Manichitratazhu" and brings out a faithfull reproduction of the original. Frames, camera movements, shots, and editing pattern are as per the original. Even diologues are simply translated from Malayalam to Hindi. But still, Priyan could not make a gripping film, because he is not Fazil.
Shobana got her only National award for her performance in the Malayalam film, and Jyotika was appreciated in Tamil remake "Chandramukhi". But Vidya Balan is miscast. Also, Shiny Ahuja. Only actor who had performed is Akshay Kumar, who simply followed, what Mohanlal has done in original.
Paresh Rawal is reduced to a bafoon. Climax which should have been gripping, and edge of the seat experience becomes ineffective due to bad editing, and mishandling by the director. Viewers were laughing and shouting throughout the climax.
A dubbed version of original Malayalam film would have been better than thiis heartless tamasha. In the fist half actions were repeated which looks amaturish. Takings are same as we have sceen in so many other films of Priyadarshan. A good film oppertunity is wasted. Priyadarshan should stop his marathon of remaking all Malayalam films available, in Hindi as if he wants to prove to somebody. Some films are beautiful with its regional touch and should be left .
A director should be intelligent and imaginative to remake."Karz" is a remake of Hollywood film "Reincarnation of Peter Proud",(Dir: Subash Gai), Mani Ratnam remade Hindi film "Swami" as "Mauna Ragam " in Tamil, K. Balachandar remade Malayalam film "Aksharangal" as "Sindu Bhairavi" in Tamil, Ram Gopal Varma made "Sarkar" based on "The Godfather". All these directors contributed their interpertation to these films while remaking.
