Dev is realy a classic by Govind Nihalani. It shows thae face of our india which isn't that shining. The character of Farhan realy shows what is going on in minds of our young Indian minorities. Though the movie is made on backdrop of mumbai riots but it seems to represent each and every communal rite in India.

The characters of two best friends Dev(Amitabh) & Tej(Om Puri) both senior cops is actually a pseudo representation of two different ideologies of our Indian people. While Tej believes that every Muslim is a tout who is here only to betray the land and has got no right to live here. Dev the main protagonist is the firm believer in our Indian constitution, he likes the secular nature of our country and believs that every citizen should get his or her right as pescribed by our constitution. The scenes espescially those of conversation between Dev and Tej while sharing the same scotch whisky are absolutely marvelous.

Also the character of Aaliya(Kareena) has a gr8 importance in the movie, it realy shows the face of modern Indian muslim women. All in all the movie is great and its one of the classics made once in sumtimes.
