Dev

Dev is the name of Amitabh Bachchans character in the movie. Dev Pratap Singh is a police officer whos friends with Tejinder Khosla (Om Puri), also an officer. Farhaan (Fardeen Khan) is a law student whose father is an activist and Aaliya (Kareena Kapoor) is Farhaans girlfriend. After Farhaans father dies during a riot, he blames Dev for the death and Farhaan vows to avenge his fathers death and Dev will pay the price.

Farhaan joins a terrorist organization in an effort to kill Dev. He finds himself being caught by the police after trying to escape a raid. He lands up in Devs office and Dev offers to help him if he gives up the people behind the organization. Farhaan refuses the offer and tells off officer Dev. Aaliyah finds a gun under Farhaans pillow and immediately suspects he has become part of the Jihad. She convinces him that this is wrong and that he should not get involved with the group. He becomes a pawn in the organization and they eventually try to kill him.

After he realizes that the same people he trusted are out to kill him, Farhaan goes to Dev for help. Aaliyah gets caught in the middle of a riot between Hindus and Muslims. She and her friend are chased home where they are attacked and her friend ends up dead. Aaliyah is able to ward off the attackers and is soon rescued by Farhaan. Farhaan rushes her to the hospital with lots of difficulty as the riot is still in progress. Eventually they arrive at the hospital where the doctor happens to be Devs wife.

After recovering, Aaliyah stands up to the officials involved in the riots and gets support from other residents at the colony. Meanwhile, Tejinder is showing his true colors and Dev soon realizes that his friend is no longer a friend but a traitor. Farhaan witnesses Tejinder shooting Dev and is now in more trouble. Will Farhaan avenge his fathers death and will Dev survive his friends betrayal?

The movie belonged to Kareena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan who made a great onscreen couple. Fardeen has given his best performance to date. The movie soundtrack features the track Rang Deeni and Kareena lends her voice to one of the tracks.
