Sanjay Gupta’s movies are nowadays synonymous with words like “stylish”, “slick”, “fast paced”. Dus Kahaaniyaan lives up to these definitions, but this is hardly a movie. It is a bouquet of “dus” poignant short stories. A very novel concept indeed!!
It is the short length of each story that lends it the desired impact.
So we have “Matrimony” – The story of a bored housewife having an illicit affair with a lieutenant, who gifts her an expensive necklace. She conjures up a plan to hide the gift only to discover that …
Then there is “Gubbare” – The happy-sad story of an elderly couple who have devised an innocent method to patch-up after a quarrel (Nana Patekar as the husband gives a honest & down-to-earth performance) .
Or you could savor “Rice Plate”, enacted by Shabana Azmi & Naseeruddin Shah which is the story of a traditional south Indian lady who is compelled to question her staunch religious beliefs due to certain incidents that take place in her life on one fine day.
Revealing more would disclose the surprise factor underlying each story. Suffice to say that each story makes it more & more difficult to select the best of the lot.
The movie has a galaxy of stars with good performances from all of them.
