Finally got the time and inclination to watch Mani Ratnam's latest offering with bollywood's Prince and Miss universe herself in pivotal roles. Further adding to the craze was the fact that it was supposed to be based on Dhirubhai Ambani's story. With all these in Mind watched the movie and it was a reasonable time pass. A movie with no violence and no great acting skills was able to hold your interest through out . The whole credit should go to the director who has done a great job.
For those who are interested in story of a bollywood masala it is about a man called Guru who wants to be rich and have industries without wasting a single second. To achieve his goals he will use all the tricks in the book and invent a few himself if required. HE compares himself to Gandhi who broke british laws while all he did was break a few laws created by the totalitarian socialist Indian government. It is funny how we had laws which stopped us from producing more than a certain quantity as pre determined by the government. HOw it was assumed govt new everything. It is not a biopic in the true sense of the word but a masala HIndi movie with a few strands here and there taken from reality.
Photography by Rajiv menon is excellent. It makes each and every scene stand out . I have not such brilliant camerawork in a long time without the usual dhamaka you normally associate with camerawork these days. The make up team has done a great job of making Abhishek's life much easier in enacting the role. An actor like Kay kay would have done full justice and brought to screen a whole gamut of emotions which a star son like Abhishek still doesnot have in his repertoire yet. As for Aishwariya she looks beautiful and does a reasonable job. The couple look good together. Madhavan has a very small role and has done a good job. I am not sure why Vidya balan took a role which could have easily be edited out without much impact. Her sufferings or even the sufferings of other actors on the screen doesnot touch a chord with you. Mithun Chakraborothy has done a good job and one who has excelled himself in midst of all the stars assembled.
It is worth a dekho but I am not sure when Amitabh voiced his comments about Abhishek and his acting was it the actor or the father speaking.
