I - Proud To Be An Indian

My family could relate to this movie. My father was a foreign student in the UK and he constantly faced racism. White youths would throw bricks with nasty racist notes through his window. My father had to have his windows repaired at least ten times! Later on he was bashed up by a skinhead for absolutely no reason. He could not see with his right eye for several months. The cops refused to help my father.

In 2000 a Pakistani teenager was murdered by a skinhead in the UK. You can read about him if you do a search for "Zahid Mubarek" in yahoo.

Saying all of the above I still think this movie could have been MUCH better. I didn't believe the super-hero aspect of Sohail Khan tackling all the problems by himself. Sohail's acting was good and Kulbushan Kharbanda was terrific. The heroine was very cute. The Punjabi song was very nice.

Khan should be commended for making a movie on this important topic. It beats the crap shown in Mohabattein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum where all the NRI's are shown as filthy rich and living in ocean front mansions with white butlers! It is true that many South Asians are highly educated and prosperous in the West, but we should also remember that there are thousands who don't speak English very well and do simple jobs and are exposed to a lot of danger when they work odd hours in gas stations and convenience stores.
