This journey into India's fine past is like a meticulously crafted, beautiful carpet that has been woven out of countless, colorful threads. The thread of the Mughal emperor depicts the creation of a powerful and prosperous country thanks to the ruler's diplomatic talents, power and force. There is the process of empire building, dealing with internal conflict and the journey of true love towards the wedded Rajput princess. Emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar is a very complex character, but this complexity is presented in a fascinating way just like a vibrant thread that unfolds and makes you want to chase it so as to see what comes next in the story. Hrithik Roshan made a magnificent emperor. He emanates with royal splendor, dignity, authority, decisiveness and beauty of body and mind. There is something of a centaur in him when mounted on a horse. Perfect unison.
The thread of the Rajput princess jingles with jewelry, rustles with her exquisite garments and even rattles with the sword. She agrees to marry the emperor for the sake of a political alliance. Her ambition though is not to be just an administrative tool in the world of politics, but to become a real wife with a marriage based on mutual love. She considers it her "good fortune" to be able to personally prepare a meal for her husband. As this thread of the story develops there are intrigues at the royal court, misunderstandings, disputes, arguments, broken bonds and hearts.
There is spirituality in the movie. A gentle song by a group of Sufis enchants and sooths. When it comes to music, A.R. Rahman did more than deliver. The musical themes carry the emotions of the characters as well as the atmosphere of the events that take place. "Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah" – the triumph, the glory and power expressed in this piece lift you off your feet. The entire musical score is perfectly woven into this magnificent picture.
