Main Aisa Hi Hoon Movie Review (17 Reviews)
Main Aisa Hi Hoon is the Hindi version of the English movie I Am Sam. Both movies have similarities but the Hindi version is much better and Ajay Devgans performance is mind-blowing. Neel (Ajay Devgan) is a mentally handicapped man who has the brain of a child. Maya (Esha Deol) is a young woman who is a drug addict and lives the life of a drifter running away from her home and father in London in search of love. One day, Neel and Maya meet at the coffee shop where Neel works and he helps her get to the bus station. She misses the bus and breaks down crying, Neel then offers to take her to his home.
Soon the two become more than friends and Maya ends up pregnant. Scared of her newfound life and all the love shes receiving from Neel, she runs aways after delivering a baby girl. Now Neel is left with the responsibility of taking care of a baby but luckily he has the support and help of his friends. Gungun (Baby Rucha Vaidya) is a bright child who is not afraid to stick up for her father and fight for him. On the day of Gunguns birthday party, Mayas father Dayanath (Anupam Kher) shows up with his lawyer and wants to take Gungun back to London with him.
Neel and Gungun now have to deal with the thought of separation. Neel finds the best lawyer in town and goes to meet her at her office. The lawyer, Neeti (Sushmita Sen) is a headstrong woman whose world only revolves around her work, theres no time for family life and for her only son Rahul. She refuses to handle Neels case but later after realizing how much love Neel has for his daughter, she agrees to represent him for free. Together they now have to fight to keep the father and daughter together.
During the court proceedings, Neels handicap is stressed upon and used to support the fact that he cannot care for his daughter. As a last resort, during court recess, Neeti decides to marry Neel. After learning that Neel is now married, the judge decides to deny Mayas fathers request to get custody of Gungun. Gungun and Neel will never be separated now and they have also gained a new family too. Before Dayanath leaves for London, he visits Neel and Gungun one last time and apologizes for his actions and realizes what he lost out on with his own daughter, Maya.
The movie soundtrack has the popular songs Just walk into my life and Papa Mere Papa with other hits like Deewanapan and Dil Mere Todo Na. All performances in this movie were outstanding and Ajay Devgan deserves a best actor award for his portrayal of a mentally handicapped man. No actor could have performed as he did and make it as believable as he did. Though Esha Deols appearance is brief, she does justice to the character of a drug addict. Baby Rucha gives a very good performance and we might be seeing her as a leading Bollywood actress in a few years. You can catch Ajay in his forthcoming movies Apaharan and Benaam and you can see Esha opposite Zayed Khan in David Dhawans Shaadi No.1.
