Previous Mithya Movie Review (6 Reviews)

A simple story, short duration, good actors ….the essential ingredients of a fine, low-budget  film. Rajat Kapoor, the debutant director of Mithya (the lie) has put all these together in what could be termed as a “Black Comedy”.

VK is a small town junior artiste who struggles to make ends meet doing 2-bit  odd roles in films.  One night, he witnesses a shoot-out between two gangs. Things get complicated when one of the gangsters notices that VK bears an uncanny resemblance to the Boss-Raje Saheb of the rival gang.  They kidnap VK and plot to plant VK as Raje Saheb. During his stint as Raje Saheb, he develops a soft corner for Raje’s wife & children but his moments of happiness are short lived. His impersonation act gets exposed and life becomes a nightmare for him. His acting ambitions get crushed as he gets entangled into the plot with no point of return.

Brilliant performances by Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Naseeruddin Shah make this film appealing. Neha Dhupia as the Chief’s moll tries to bring in the oomph.

Overall a commendable directoral debut, would have been even better if the debonair Rajat Kapoor had also acted in his film.
