Omkara is an amazingly well made movie. But well made does not mean entertaining. It is way too depressing. When someone comes home after a hard days work , fightling his way through the world, he wants to see a positive uplifting tale. Not one where everyone dies and fails
Omkara(Ajay Devgan) is the chief of an outlaw gang in UP. Langda (Saif Ali Khan) is superb as his next in command. The movie begins with Dolly (Kareena Kapoor) whoabandons her own wedding to run away with Omkara leaving the groom Rajan in the lurch
Kesu (Vivek Oberoi) is named the next in command which inflames Langda who was hoping to get that position. Rajan goads him into action and Langda sets about creating a rift between Omkara and Kesu by planting the seeds of doubt in his mind that Kesu is having an affair with Dolly. Indu(Konkana Sen) is Omkara's sister who lends support to Dolly. Step by step Langda sows the seed of doubt in Omkara's mind and finally Omkara asks him to prove it. Through subterfuge he uses a cell phone and gets Kesu to talk of his love Billo ( Bipasha Basu) and tells a willing Omkara that Kesu is talkling of Dolly
The deception of Langda and the dialect are outstanding. The acting is superb allround. The direction is also excellent
Shakespeares Othello in India shows that stories are universal. The theme is 'Jealousy kills', 'Deviousness never pays' and 'a man scorned is capable of heinous crimes'
