A worthy effort from one of India's best directors. A fearless film that tackles society's many unspeakable issues. Bollywood's "La Dolce Vita". There are flaws, for instance, the movie was sorely in need of a good editor. The first half was dull and plodding, but it finally gets going. Despite it's almost three hour length, some characters are still underdeveloped. (I couldn't help thinking I have seen some of the characters before...and I had...three roommates, one a writer, one modern liberal sexually-open, another rather prissy. A gay best friend. Yes, it's reminicent of HBO's "Sex in the City". I mean Tara Sharma even looks a bit like Kristin Davis! But these are minor flaws.) Overall the movie succeeds and even surprises. The performances are first rate. Certainly a good contender for a foreign movie Oscar. It should be presented in many film festivals around the world. Looking forward to seeing more from Madhur Bhandarkar.
