I understand that telling a story is an art but film making is a different ball game. Vidhu Vinod chopra has messed up again as he did in "1942 A love story" A war/freedom struggle era love story would be a film makers delight but he just messed it up with unnecesary passionate and irrelevant scenes and a poor script.
And Now Parineeta, a classic Novel which is also a fimmakers delight spoilt again by B class scripting and very dissapointing editing. The story told in the film doesnt strike a cord at all, the agony the possesiveness and the hidden love in Shekhar and Lolita could have been shown in such fantastic dramatisation, the film makers didnt play their cards right here.
Definitely we are not making a original film, then why not make it better. Some scenes were right pulled from Bhansalis "Devdaas" so what it had Bengali background, do all fathers slap their grown up adult kids? Lolitas love for shekhar was so unwilling. Some more time could have been given to both of them than showing the dumb passionate scenes between them, are we pulling crowds here?
The only good part of the film is that its based on a classic novel, it doesnt have any good things of its own. Meena kumari and Ashok Kumar really brought Lolita and Shekhar alive.
The climax of "Tod Shekhar" when he breaks the wall was pathetic. A very poor written plot to make Lolita wait to peep through the broken wall.
Vidhu Vinod should stick to hire directors of MBBS only and not ruin rich Indian classics.
