I liked the movie. But the movie may have been better
handled.
I have seen a lot of reviews complaining about the
style of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Why was there no
sunlight ... the town the film makes us see is like
finding a neverland ... dull movie with darkness and
not bright colors ... etc.
First, i think Colombia Pictures enters India with
this movie. I think they have chosen Sanjay for his
movie "Black". Remember, Black had almost the same
sort of sets like in Saaariya ... but the style of
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is just glamorize one particular
idea ... using lot of wonderful score ... relating it
with human emotions ... and creating a drama out of
it. I really think its a great style SLB has ... and
my congratulations to him for his great style. And
this style is what the people of hollywood can really
understand, and they i guess fail to understand the
normal conventional bollywood styles of film making.
That is why Colombia has chose SLB.
The simple idea of how a girl falls in love with a
tenet (salman khan) or her house ... who unfortuntely
wanders a little bit ... and after a great night
between them ... the tenent give her promise that he
will return to get her after one year ... then Ranbir
comes and falls in love with the girl (Sonum). But
sonum treats ranbir as a friend in the starting. the
dilemmas of the questions whether the tenent will
come and take sonum invariably troubles everybody
concerned ... when the time withinwhich salman
promised to come ends and he doesnt shows ... as a
matter of another alternative sonum agrees to go with
ranbir. but for ranbir ... unfortunately ... salman
returns and takes her.
SLB has tried to play with the emotions each and every
character, including Rani Mukherhee ( who plays a
prostitute and plays the role of narrating the story
to the audience ... the incendents that happen in her
life about ranbir). While looking at SLB's films, i
guess one has to ignore the questions like why there
is no sunlight ... where is that town ... the
snowfall. I guess all these are the cinematic tools of
trying to support and create an atmosphere for the
topic of the film.
I wonder is "Mera naam joker" legacy going to continue
in the Kapoor family. the film certainly projects
ranbir as the Raj Kapoor in "Mera Naam Joker". Has not
Ranbir got a more apt script for him. I say "apt",
because i indeed liked ranbir ... he is too good ...
and has to mature more ... this being his first film.
I thought Sonum has got a perfect role for her, and
she was fabulous. I just think she is some sort of a
"naughty girl", i donno why i say this ... but i just
have this feeling.
