A must-watch for all gifted with an aesthetic sense and an artistic bend of mind, for all who are also interested in the aesthetic facets of cinema and not just a melodramatic plot or a storyline that "caters to all audiences", as they say! But if you feel all that you want is just "mindless entertainment", then please do not watch this for it will be a terrible let down for you.
Watch this poignant visual love poem on the big screen. This movie is bound to enchant you with its sheer visual beauty - the dream world engendered by the fecund imagination of a sensitive prostitute which we see only at nights (four nights in a row) always bathed in gentle green and blue hues, with its Venetian canals and the gondoliers, its Mural paintings, its clean cobbled streets and its majestic clock tower and the posh bar - you are bound to fall in love with this place and might even feel like making this your homeland for the rest of your life.
The plot (which is based on Dostoevsky's WHITE NIGHTS, as the opening credits proudly declare; Bhansali makes no bones about this) is a simple love triangle. But the way the story has been told makes all the difference! Everyone has done a good job, whether it is Ranbir or Sonam or Rani ... Mesmerizing music, flawless direction, unimaginably beautiful sets - rush to the nearest theater and watch this on the big screen or you will regret!
Here is one movie that we all can be proud of!
