Featured Singh is Kinng Movie Review

by Indian Cinema

Anees Bazmee is back again. Only this time he’s back with a much-hyped romantic comedy of the year 2008. Singh is Kinng is a true Bollywood style entertainer with all the formula required to make it a complete entertainer. Equal dozes of music, action, dance, drama, comedy and a love triangle make this an absolute family summer treat. A surprise package, it is best not to expect a No Entry or Welcome from Anees Bazmee here. Vipul Amrutlal Shah is the producer of the film.

Akshay Kumar as Happy Singh has excelled in his role in the movie. Even though he is a bumbling village idiot, he is compassionate and helpful at heart. That also makes him a gullible, foolhardy and accident prone goon in his village. His efforts to do good often put him in awkward situations sometimes resulting in hilarious disasters. Desperate villagers pack him off to Australia to bring back Lucky Singh (Sonu Sood), the once Lakhanpal of the village, who is now a notorious underworld don in Australia. We are introduced to his cronies, all turbaned Sikhs, including half blind-half deaf Mika (Jafed Jaffrey) and Julie (Neha Dhupia).

Happy Singh takes his mission a bit too seriously, embarks on his journey with his friend Rangeela (Om Puri). The duo end up in Egypt after a mix-up where Happy meets Sonia (Katrina Kaif) and falls in love with her. But upon reaching his destination, things take a precarious turn as he runs into a series of comic misadventures, leaving him penniless. He is fortunate to find warmth and affection in an elderly lady, Rose Lady (Kirron Kher) who helps him meet Lucky.

Along with Sonia and Rangeela, Happy departs to persuade Lucky and bring him back to Punjab. Lucky denies the proposal as he is entrenched in crime. However, twist of events land Lucky in the hospital paralysed. Destiny and Lucky’s cronies demand Happy to take up Lucky’s place as ‘king’. Happy does so and transforms the mean king into a clean king. The good deeds take a crazy turn and Sonia arrives with her beau Puneet (Ranvir Shorey) to her mother Kirron Kher after three years. Following series of events take you on a roller-coaster ride of absolute hilarity and fun.

It is a heart-warming tale with a twist of events falling at the right moments creating fun, credibility and making it completely believable. The cast fit in perfectly doing complete justice to their roles. Pritam’s music has been thoroughly used well with Snoop Dogg’s song appearing at the end taking the audience by surprise. In all, the movie is unpretentious of being witty or intelligent. It is simply loud, funny and absolutely entertaining.
