A lot has been said on kareena wearing a two piece in Yashraj banner’s newly released film “Tashan’. What’s so great about it, after watching those imported girls as cheer-girls during IPL cricket matches.? At least the girls made the news with a partial ban on their dresses. But, kareena’s display went unnoticed. The director of this film- Vijay Krishna Acharya had earned a name as a writer of Dhoom and Dhoom-2 , but as a director of ‘Tashan’ he failed to create a dhoom. In fact, the movie is terrible and so is the direction.
A call centre executive ( Saif Ali Khan)who is hired to teach English to UP Gangster ( Anil kapoor) , falls for the gangster’s assistant( kareena), who in turn uses him to deceive her boss with crores of rupees. In short, Yashraj films have offered all ready made stuff to all those frustrated youths to become crorepatis via fast track. Now, to teach them a lesson for double crossing him, the gangster then hires a henchman ( Akshay Kumar) . That’s all about this horrible film offering new lessons of crime, which comes unfortunately under the big banner .
Identifying the characters with the names like Jimmy, Bhaiyyaji, Bachchan Pandey, hasn’t created the required impact as the director might have thought ,as the base of the story itself is weak.. Instead of paying attention on script, unnecessary attention is paid on the hairstyles, costumes and presentation of these characters . It is almost like topping up a bad recipe with something appealing. And, this experiment of Yashraj films has failed to impress the sensible audience. Over and above that the music too is not very impressive, except for one song .
To say something about the film’s direction, , not all story and screenplay writers succeed as directors. It’s a totally different area for which one needs to understand the pulse of the audience with the changing time. A good director also has to extract the best out of the characters and just not leave them on their own to perform. How could Yashraj films take that risk?
All that the makers and distributors of ‘Tashan’ did was heavy publicity on TV channels and on cricket grounds , but failed to attract the viewers. After all, it is the on word of mouth praise of the latest film that matters. Looking at the performances, except for Akshay kumar, no other actor has been able to make a mark. The film is a total disappointment from all angles.
