Veeralippattu Movie Review (1 Reviews)
Kukku Surendran's Veeralipattu is a good family tearjerker, with a nice message. Though the theme and treatment is like a 70's, Malayalam film, it is still a brave film that realistic and off-beat.

Hari(Pritviraj) is a young man employed in Chennai and is in love with Pooja (Padmapriya), a rich girl. But Hari is haunted by his family traditions and wants to go back to his village in Kerala. His family men are the traditional Velichapadu (temple oracle) at the village temple. His grandfather Narayanan Nair ( Jagathy Sreekumar) was a renowned Velichapadu and the tradition was continued by his father Madhavan Nair (Murali).

Though his father does not want him to take up this hoary profession, Hari is fascinated and slowly drawn to it by circumstances and fate. Kukku message seems to be that the burden of carrying the family tradition lies with the next generation if the art has to survive.

Pritviraj is brilliant as Hari, another realistic Vasthavam type performance, something similar to what his dad Sukumaran did 35 years back in the M.T Vasudevan Nair classic Nirmalyam. Jagathy Sreekumar and Murali are also very effective in their respective roles. The supporting cast of Padmapriya, Anoop Chandran, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu and others are apt for their roles. Count among others Manoj Pillai's camera and Mohan Sithara's music as plus point.

Veeralipattu is meant for a class audience, and director Kukku deserves a pat on his back for making such a brave film without any compromises, and probably the film may get a few awards.
