As action-packed films have become the order of the day in Kollywood, hilarious entertainers are a rarity. Director T P Gajendran has chosen for the latter and re-made Malayalam blockbuster CID Moosa. It must however be said that the re-make (Cheena Thana) is no patch on the original. Yet, it is a pleasant change from the present day films and Gajendran to his credit has come up with a honest re-make.
The movie is a welcome shift for Prasanna, who has been playing serious roles till now. The bubbly youth in the actor has been brought out. He fights, tries his hand at comedy and dances for racy songs, with conviction.
Sheela is the typical Tamil heroine. She makes a brief appearance. Riyaz Khan as a greedy policeman makes a mark. However, the real scene-stealer is Vadivelu. With one of his better performances in recent times, he brings the roof down. His dialogue delivery and body language evokes laughter.
The movie has no clear storyline or plot, but humour works out well.
Prasanna is the son of a police officer Delhi Ganesh, who was with the dog squad, but is now addicted to liquor. Prasanna wants to become a police officer. Manivannan, a police inspector and his brother-in-law, does not like the idea and ensures that Prasanna does not clear his physical test.
The hero, however, has other plans. He starts a private detective agency and with the help of his smart dog and close aide (Vadivelu) and uncle Ilavarasu, he sets out to track those aiming to bump off the State Governor.
The supporting cast include Livingstone, Kazan Khan, Riyaz Khan and Muthukalai.
The songs by Deva are foot-tapping. Gajendran has come up with a hilarious offering and with Vadivelu at his best, the movie should be a treat for comedy-lovers.
