Evano Oruvan is about an individual’s crusade against the rotten, corrupt systems in society and it comes with the tagline ‘It’s About You’. It is a revolt of a ‘righteous’ middle-class youth.
A remake of the acclaimed Marathi film Dombivili Fast, directed by Nishikant, Evano Oruvan is no stranger to Tamil audience. They have seen the male protagonist taking on the corrupt right from the times of Gentleman to Mudhalvan to Indian to Kattradhu Thamizh.
What is strikingly different in Evano Oruvan is that the director has not compromised on anything. It has neither any song or comedy sequences. Yet he manages to take a pragmatic approach to the issues haunting society.
Madhavan shoulders all the burden in the movie playing a middle-class youth with ‘no compromising attitude’.
A man of principles, Madhavan has come up with a flawless performance.
Sangeetha as his ‘pampering’ wife and Seeman as a tough police officer behind Madhavan are adequate. The movie revolves around the life of a middle-class man Sridhar Vasudevan (Madhavan) who has never bribed anyone in his life and has never accepted any bribe himself.
A straight-forward guy, he is disturbed by corruption around him. The callous attitude of the people towards such men upsets him.
Every time he tries to intervene or do something, he is stopped by one of his friends or colleagues. Dejected at his wife and friends criticising him for leading an honest life, Sridhar Vasudevan turns violent and takes to arms.
What happens next when he changes his route forms the rest of the story.
Nishikanth, who made few changes to suit the Tamil audience, should have concentrated more on the characterisation.
The movie tends to lag towards the second half.
Nevertheless, Evano Oruvan is an honest attempt by the director and his team.
