I would like to add a rebuttal to the review of Kripa. Do you actually think that the reality of the situation in Sri Lanka could be incorporated into a movie designed for entertainment? As a Sri Lankan, I feel Maniratnam adddressed the key issues experienced by many Sri Lankans. Although he may have inaccuarately captured small details, Maniratnam illustrated the brutality of war. He also intelligently demonstrated the intrinsic need of every individual to know the identity his or her parents. The young girl did an excellent job showing the internal conflict, choosing between the parents who had raised her and her parents who had brought her into this world. Simran acted extremely well and demonstrated a mother's need to hold on to her child's innocence while allowing her to grow up. Overall, this movie has successfully captured two sensitive issues, the brutality of war and one's need to understand his/her identity. This movie deserves all the praise it has and will continue to receive.
