Overall an excellent movie by director Agathian known for his different thinking and style. He brings out a nice soft love story with poise, enjoyable dialogues, expressive visuals and very interesting story. Since all the lyrics are penned by the director himself they go very well with the film story. The movie has excellent tunes composed by debutant Premji Amaran. Five of the songs are very melodious and sure to be top hits with one solo by Vijay Yesudas that would rank among the best. That song has been filmed with beautiful visuals and expressions by Bharathi (and Vikranth too). The background music by Yugendran is very pleasant. Four of the songs are filmed nicely with great soft visuals and the other dance number 'cell phone' song has some good and enjoyable techno/hiphop beats. Premji has used multiple voice track mixing and digital echo very effectively in his songs which adds nice harmony and to his credit does n't overdo it. Tamil cinema lacks quality music composers after Ilayaraja's saga, but there is melody, rhythm and unique style in Premji's music. Let 's hope he will continue to provide more such tunes.
Apart from the director and the music composers it is Bharathi all the way giving such a wonderful performance in the film. Her expressive eyes, smiles and nuances tell so much that can not be easily narrated in dialogues. The way she expresses the nuances and feelings of a girl attracted by a very different person whom she comes across as well as the disappointment when her love is rejected is very touching. Vikranth also has done his job portraying the character nicely though in certain areas he needs to be more expressive and natural.
Agathian's screenplay and dialogues are very enjoyable except few scenes which irritates viewers when Vikranth repeatedly says 'don't know' to Bharathi. He could have instead said "let me tell you later". Also, the director has not brought out very well sudden the change in Vikranth's behaviour when he sees life differently. He should have added few more incidents to stress this vital part in the narration. Also, the the later part of the film is very 'cinematic' when Vikrant conducts his ex-lover's wedding. The movie's nice flow gets interrupted from here with such artificialities. The director has tried to build a exciting climax with questions arising in viewer's minds what is going to happen but I must say that he has failed to deliver his class act here though the end act is a touching one. Other characters (Manivannan, Saranya etc) are merely for fulfilling the film's need and to satisfy different viewer's expectations and they add very little to the story line.
Why this film is different : There are no typical fight sequences in the film, no obscene visuals (but for few avoidable dialogues), not even a comedy track. (would any one dare to do a tamil film with out these necessities?) Except two dance numbers, in no song sequence do the actors do any dance at all. The story is powerful, very different, dialogues are very touching and enjoyable, both background music and song compositions are excellent, excellent preformance by Bharathi, Vikranth's fitting role, nice visuals and cinematography and some good editing make this film a stand-out from others in the crowd.
