A desire to render something 'different' apparently propelled the director duo
of Haricharan and Newton to come up with Thoovanam.
The film is about a
psychologically-affected youth and boasts of a highly-rated technical team and
the artistes, who have given their best.
Karthi (Adhitya), an architect, is
desperately in love with Anu (Nethra). Initially, when his romantic feelings are
unrequited, he is unable to accept it and attempts to end his life.
The attitudes of Karthi and Anu, born and
brought up in the US, are as different as chalk and cheese. Later, she changes
her mind and romance blossoms between the two.
Meanwhile, Karthi (who tries to commit
suicide) is saved by his friends. Anu comes to know of this and resumes her
relationship with him. The scene changes and she falls in love with him. But the
film doesn't end here. It all boils down to a touchy climax.
Adhitya, who has featured in television
serials looks to be an apt choice and his expressions are spontaneous and
natural. Nethra, a student of MOP Vaishnav College, has acquitted herself rather
well.
Karthik's three friends (Maurya, Ponnumani
and Suraj Krishna) make an impression. Sriman and Bhanuchander play important
cameos.
Madhu Ambat's camera work, Issac Thomas'
lilting tunes and Krishnamurthy (art director) have contributed their mite to
the movie.
Haricharan and Newton deserve a pat for
their efforts despite the end product being far from convincing.
